Lutheran School of Lexington School News March 2008
Principal’s Corner:
“Lutheran Education”
I was not a child who benefited from a Lutheran education. I was raised on Long Island, where and when public schools held to a strong commitment of quality education for all children. This is not always the norm today. Many public schools struggle to provide for children, acquire quality educators, or serve the needs of children out of the mainstream
As new families call and visit our school office I hear more frequently that some private schools are not meeting up to the reputation that they once held. Some parochial schools aren’t holding Christ as the focus of the education that they offer.
Lutheran churches and schools do not “water down” scripture. God’s Word is the foundation of our educational programs and worship. Lutherans believe that the Bible provides us with God inspired words to guide our lives – thoughts, actions, words.
We will celebrate Lutheran Schools Week the week of March 2-8. There are 2400+ Lutheran schools in the United States celebrating with us. We are a part of a school system that was founded on the principle that churches should provide quality, Christian education to the community that they serve. The Lutheran school system is only second to that of the Catholic system in size.
The Lutheran School of Lexington has made a commitment to focus on quality, not quantity. Our classrooms are capped at desired student ratios; we will be stocked with quality instructional materials, and will call/employ dedicated educators work hard to provide for each child’s needs.
I have the pleasure of serving as this the principal of our school ministry; it has been a blessing to develop programs, guide the development of the facilities, and to work with all three congregations to bring this ministry to Lexington to show God’s love to our children.
Developing disciples for Jesus is the pleasure in our ministries. A “disciple” is defined as one who embraces and assists in the spreading of the teachings of another; an active adherent, as of a movement or philosophy. Lutheran Schools spread God’s Word!

Our Association School Development
Enrollment materials are ready for all interested members. You are encouraged to contact Ellen Mattheus at (268-7787). There will be limited student openings for the first year (50).
Resumes are welcomed for part time teaching positions and teaching assistances. Teachers and staff members are key in providing quality, faith-based education and marketing our schools, so please pray for God to lead us through this process.
There is a great deal to be completed to have our school ready to open in August 2008:
Help Needed: The initial preparation of the LSL site includes the school office and renovation of one classroom. This process is almost complete, we are still in need of a painter to complete one wall in the entry way.
There is also a need for knowledgeable hands to install fire signs at three school exits. Please contact John Carlson to volunteer (255-1483).
The licensing process will begin for the educational programs of the Lutheran School of Lexington and Our Redeemer Preschool within the next month. Both sites will offer full-time programs and accommodate up to 50 children with their educational programs.
- Our Scrip volunteers are busy processing
- orders from each congregation: Sarah Grasch (SJ), Patricia Hopkins (GS),
- Susan Thuringer (OR) and our coordinator Bill Gruber (OR).
We would like to thank all of the members that have completed and returned their Stewardship Forms, outlining what their areas of interest and expertise are; along with the generous Thrivent members that have sent in their forms and donations to date. We would like each congregation to return 100% of their forms to aide the Stewardship Program that each church agreed to support at their voter’s meetings. Everyone can make a difference!
The LSL ministry is your opportunity to share your time, talent and treasures.
