Lutheran School of Lexington School News February 2008
Principal’s Corner: “What is Love?”
I had the privilege to take part in a marvelous devotion at the FL/GA District Office last spring. The devotion was based on 1 Corinthians 12-13; spiritual gifts and love were the focus of this devotion.
“Being of one body with many parts” speaks to the many gifts God has blessed us with and of being of one church. The many gifts: healing, teaching administration, serving others, etc. are blessings bestowed upon His people – coming together to make one body. As our individual bodies are not complete without all of its parts - the church is not complete without its many parts (people) with their gifts. No one individual is the whole – but together we are one.
As we read Chapter 13:4-7, I reflected on the true description of God that is present in the chapter. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres ”
God is love. The purity of these verses shows me the perfection of God’s love. His love does not fail, even in times of distress or sinfulness. His love strengthens and guides, withstands the impurities of our human nature. His selflessness when providing a means for our forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus Christ is the ultimate example of love.
Now, the next step in reflection on these verses is- we are to be examples of love to others. Read those verses again. Are you always the best example of love? I know I fall short. Do you?
Reflect on verse 10–“but, when the perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.”That is a powerful statement. The envy, boasting, pride, anger, resentfulness, grudges disappear. What a joyous existence! What a joyous relationship!
God was speaking to the people of Corinth in these verses, and to us. He wants us to use our gifts for Christ and his people.

Our Association School Development
Enrollment materials are ready for all interested members. You are encouraged to contact Ellen Mattheus at (268-7787). There will be limited student openings for the first year (50).
A call committee was formed to review teacher profiles and make a recommendation to the BOD for 2008-2009 positions. This committee has identified three teachers to recommend for available positions as the enrollment is secured.
Resumes are welcomed for part time teaching positions and teaching assistances. Teachers and staff members are key in providing quality, faith-based education and marketing our schools, so please pray for God to lead us through this process.
There is a great deal to be completed to have our school ready to open in August 2008:
Preparation of the LSL site is essential to the success of the school. John Carlson of Good Shepherd is leading the effort to physically prepare the site. We are still in need of a small group of painters to complete the entry way and hallway. There is also a need for knowledgeable hands to install fire signs at three school exits. Please contact John to volunteer (255-1483).
- The Adjustment Hearing to approval the expansions of the Our Redeemer preschool took place Friday, 1/25. The City Council approved an expansion up to fifty students for the OR programs. Now, we will move forward and working on the licensing for a full time preschool. Thank you to Wendy Trivisonno (OR) for leading these efforts and serving as OR’s representative at the hearing.
- At the same Adjustment Hearing, the City Council approved the Good Shepherd site for the initial facility for the Lutheran School of Lexington. A special thank you to Roger Fischer for leading this application process, and John Watz (SJ) for being present as our legal representative.
- Our Scrip volunteers are busy processing
- orders from each congregation: Sarah Grasch (SJ), Patricia Hopkins (GS),
- Susan Thuringer (OR) and our coordinator Bill Gruber (OR).
We would like to thank all of the members that have completed and returned their Stewardship Forms, outlining what their areas of interest and expertise are; along with the generous Thrivent members that have sent in their forms and donations to date. We would like each congregation to return 100% of their forms to aide the Stewardship Program that each church agreed to support at their voter’s meetings. Everyone can make a difference!
The LSL ministry is your opportunity to share your time, talent and treasurers. We are seeking the following:
- Website Manager
- Fundraising committee members
- Labels & Box Top Coordinator & Reps
Please contact either Nancy Francis (272-1290) or Ellen Mattheus (556-9899) to volunteer for any of the opportunities listed.
